Man, dig that Hammond organ! It doesn't get much better than this!

I for one am very grateful. I would hate to have to dress in so much spandex.

...WTF with giant shooting tampon at the end???!!!!!

You only have to wear that -- and the metallic purple wig -- if you're stationed on the top-secret moonbase.

Hey, show some respect! Without the giant 'splodey tampons, we'd have all been harvested for our organs before mullets went out of style!
OMG it's full of STARS!

One of mine, too, actually. Re-watching with grown-up eyes, there's a lot of "lumps" that take a lot of swallowing -- Nobody ever noticed Straker's office sinking out of sight? -- but it's still a grand adventure with cool gadgets and neat effects and that magnificent Barry Gray musical score.

I LOVED the soundtrack. And the purple hair! ♥ XD Cheesy, I know, but when I was 12 it was fricken AWESOME and utterly inspiring. This was all pre-Star Wars too.

One of our friends was a big fanboy of UFO and ended up as a SFX artist in the industry; hobnobbing with the likes of Peter Jackson (LOTR), and got to know a lot of the UFO peeps pretty well. He's one of those friends we get to live vicariously through! XD

Gabrielle Drake ("Lt. Gay Ellis") was the first punch I took -- followed by Katy Manning and then Elisabeth Sladen -- in the beating that left me hopelessly attracted to women with British accents. (Really, the whole Commonwealth. English, Irish, Scots, Australian... Canadians don't really do it for me, though.) That purple hair and the huge eyes (and other things of unusual size) just.... Powie!!!!

While some of this show has aged badly -- I rewatched the pilot a while ago, and the introduction of Moonbase, which should take about fifteen seconds, if we're taking our time, takes about a full minute of zooming in on the moon -- but it's still exciting, dramatic, and impressive.

Derek Meddings' special effects for Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, from the "Kiddie Shows" like "Thunderbirds" through "UFO" and "Space: 1999," were just amazing, and I'm here to tell you, they've been a huge influence on a lot of today's great FX artists. I remember meeting "Adam 'Mojo' Lebowitz -- who did a lot of the special effects work on the first three seasons of "Babylon 5" -- at a convention, and he enthused about Derek Meddings's effects in "Thunderbirds," and how they influenced his work on "Babylon 5."
