Unwinnable Fight 2

Guh. Guh.

Posted on 2006.09.15 at 05:41
OK, y'all remember back here I posted my joy at getting a good review for "Surrogate" from PutMoneyInThyPurse.

I've been e-mailing back and forth with her about a project I'm helping her with -- not fanfic -- and she mentioned that she was reading "Unwinnable Fight" and said some very kind things about it.

So I woke up this morning, and looked over at my stories page on TQP, where I see that "Unwinnable Fight" has a couple more reviews than the last time I looked. Now, I thought that she'd pretty well made me all floaty when she e-mailed me.

Then I saw this page:

http://www.thequidditchpitch.org/reviews.php?sid=3134

Thank God it's gotten two -- now three -- very critical reviews over on "RestrictedSection.Org" or I wouldn't be able to fit my head through doors!

This is just such an overwhelming experience! Just... Wow!

Wow - that's an incredible review! You deserve it though, you're definitely one of the best writers I've ever come across in fanfic, and trust when I say that I've read more than what is usually considered healthy :)

*growls* Who gave it critical reviews? Come on, some people have no taste. *walks off grumbling about people who wouldn't know quality if it hit them over the head*

Two reviewers on "restrictedsection.org." One was an H/Hr shipper who thought it would be the best H/Hr smut ever if it didn't have all this moaning about Ron. (Oh, yeah, and he felt I'd anatomically misplaced the hymen. It's been almost thirty years since I've met one, so for all I know, they're right. {Feel free to check and let me kno-- Ouch! Stop! Kidding! Don't hurt me!})

The other was an R/Hr shipper who thought there was no way Harry would betray his friend that way, and Ron got over it too fast.

Honestly, I'm cool with it. They were both very thoughtful reviews from folks who had clearly read the story and thought about it. As Spider Robinson says, "Some people like Pistacchio Ripple!" That's why there's more than one kind of fic.

Firstly: I'm going to ignore that hymen comment, I think! :D

Well, those two are ok I guess - at least the second person tried to be constructive! As for the first, well...it's like you say: if it were Ron and Hermione, it wouldn't be a story. Same goes for HHr shippers. Why on earth would they want to read it if it were HHr? There'd be no plot! *is puzzled*
Ah well, at least they bothered to review, I spose...

I was just worried that you got flamers, or dressed-up flamers. Which are rather amusing to read when I'm skimming through reviews of a fic, yes (what can you do but laugh at them, really?) but they get me really annoyed when I'm in a less tolerable mood. I mean, really, why bother reviewing at all if you're not going to say anything good or give the author anything useful about it? Grr... Ok, I'm done with the rant now...:D

I just don't feel like I have time to waste on being offended by people not liking my stories. I think you hit the nail on the head with the H/Hr guy -- why do I think everyone who gives me a bad review is a guy? -- but it's all good. At least he got some fairly hot H/Hr sex out of the experience!

And the ones who just flame? Them, I really don't care about.

i want you to picture molly with a large skillet, coming to whop you one in the back of the head, mister! i can't beLIEVE you justsaid that!!!!

(and i am a little confused about how you invisage the placement myself, as i mentioned to you previously.... but then maybe they are many and varied as most bodily parts are)

So I suppose asking for pictures would have been out of line, huh?

And, er, my recollection, dim though it be after twenty-seven or so years, was as a barrier partway in. sort of. I plead slightly different evolutionary patterns in the Potterverse! Yeah, that's the ticket!

And, hell, I thought you were saying that it wasn't that severe being broken, not that it was anatomically misplaced! Crap, I could have fixed it back then!

Congratulations - you done good - I'm grinning for you!

And I'm also glad that you have such a mature attitude towards criticism - the world could certainly do with a bit more tolerance of different viewpoints and "I'm OK, you're OK", and you set an excellent example.

So the Hippy does the Hoopy Hoppy Dance, because she's Happy?

Oh, thanks, I'm just on such a high from that review!

And, just now, another overwhelming reviwe came in from her for "Frightened Old Man!" It's kind of distressing to me that that one gets the best reviews, because it was my very first HP fic, and I always thought it was kind of a slight little thing.

It is incredibly gratifying. If only I didn't suddenly have this headache, as if I'd been clubbed in the back of the head with a large skillet!

I haven't read "Unwinnable Fight" but I have read a few of your others. I will be getting to "Statistics" this weekend, btw.

Great writing deserves great reviews! Congratulations!

Thank you so much!

"Statistics," by the way, is entirely visible on the journal page. It's shorter, I think, than the entry this comment is replying to. I mention it only because I'm really amused that that scanty seven paragraphs -- a whole hundred-and-thirty-seven words! -- is something you need to schedule for! ;^)

LOL. I saw the title banner on my Friends Page as I was scanning through. Simply said to myself, "I need to read that this weekend." I didn't note that it was posted in whole.

I figured it was the banner!
