I'm kinda bothered by the way there's overlap in letters between "Harry Potter" and "and the" in my current "Harry Potter and the" logo, which is used on any of my fics that has a title beginning "Harry Potter and the".

So I've re-done it with a couple of variations, and I wonder what you guys think.

Which "Harry Potter and the" Logo do you prefer?

Poll #869088 Which Logo do you Prefer?

First One

Second One

Third One

Hi, I'm kind of new at this so... Well I reviewed your story on The Quidditch Pitch and you said to ask you to allow me to view your restricted section. Well I'd obviously like to take you up on that offer. I can't wait to read the rest of what you have written =)

GW, I'm stunned! I just went and friended you into teh "restricted" group, so you can see all of "Unbreakable Bond" so far, and I see that your LJ was created today! And it looks like I'm the only one you've friended so far! Can it possibly be that you've signed up for LJ just for my story? That's got to be one of the most flattering things that ever happened to me!

Thanks so much! You just made my day!

I picked 2 but I can't tell a difference between 2 and 4.
I'm glad you are very productive at work today *g*

I was fairly productive, actually for the first half of the day, but it involved lots of time sitting on hold with Verizon, so I had time to make the alternate logos. (Doesn't actually take but a minute!)

But I'm getting larangitis, so I left at noon. Not much more worthless than a phone support guy who can't talk. I expect to sound like Harvey Firestein shortly.

it's a toss up between 2 and 4, which looked very similar. they are more balanced though.

i'm going to be a shit stirrer (hey it's my turn yeah? no? oh well....) and say that your logo is just so MALE.

Can I be really pernickerty? The gap between the 'and' and the 'the' is slightly too big in the second one but not big enough in the fourth one, I know it's a tiny point but I had a tutor at uni who was that annoying too!

See, you guys? there is a difference!

OK, I'll try to come up with a compromise, becasue the general placement seems the most popular.

So, it looks like the winner may be:

Opinions?

Um, actually, I'm leaning toward 5. 5 is 4 with the spacing between 'and' and 'the' slightly wider as suggested by thesteppyone and with two pixel-rows of background added on the top edge and both sides to avoid having the letters look chopped right at the edge of the graphic. That will add just a touch of white space (A printer’s term. I realize it’s actually pale blue... (at least on my monitor)) and help it balance. Note how much better the space between the bottom of the 'n' looks in 4 vs. 1 and it got chopped off entirely in 2.

All in all it looks good.

follow up

Fascinating… The background does not show up here at home using Firefox. It dose at work using IE.

Re: follow up

It's a "Portable Network Graphic." The background's supposed to be "transparent" and that's what it saved as in PSP. Good web browsers see the background as transparent, so I totally ignored your whitespace comment -- for my purposes, whitespace is anathema -- but went with your and Steppy Sarah's comments about word spacing.

ummm...yeah. I have no idea. I honestly can't tell the difference between some of them!

I'd go for either two or four, though :)

I followed Sarah's and Dave's advice, and picked "5."

And congrats, you graduate, you!

So do I have to wait through a week of schoolies to see your review of Chapter Nine?
harry_lvr at 2006-11-17 09:15 (UTC) (Link)
possibly? I'm reading it now, but I keep getting interrupted, and I haven't even started packing for tomorrow yet! ...but no, fanfic comes first, always, so I'll make sure you get your review tonight! *sighs* My friend Kim and I always say we'd have done so much better at school if we didn't spend so many classes reading/talking/theorising/writing fanfiction...

Oh, and thanks for the congrats! I'm so excited, although I'll probably miss it soon...
