Even if Leonard Cohen's voice is too dry and rhythm is too slow, hang around till the camera pulls back and reveals his backup band. They've got some real potential.

It's so lovely seeing Bono and the Edge so in awe of the privelege of supporting Leonard Cohen, and seeing him float off in the rapture of being supported by U2.

Isn't it lovely to see Bono being completely thrilled and blown away to be Leonard Cohen's backup singer? It's a lovely, lovely moment.

Cohen reminds me of a description once given by a professional musician of Ray Charles. This won't be exact, but it captures the spirit. He said, "You think it's only hard to play fast but I gotta tell you, Ray has this rhythm, I call it the Death Rhythm, and it's really hard because it's so slow. He'll get up there to rehearse and say 'One!' Take a sip of water. Go offstage to greet a friend who's dropped in, say hello. Walk back out, have another sip of water, and say, 'Two!'"

Cohen is such an amazing writer, and such a gracious fellow.

Oh, I know, I love him so! His "Everybody Knows" gets me to the bottom of my soul. Just breathtaking...as is so many of his others. It bothers me that you can get covers of his songs easier then you can get his stuff...a bit like Dylan that way sometimes!

That was an excellent documentary/movie thing this clip is from. I'm a huge Leonard Cohen fan :)

I have real issues with the documentary, "Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man." Certainly the interview material with Cohen was magnificent, and the material by various musicians -- especially Bono and the Edge and Nick Cave -- talking about Cohen was fabulous. But the direction was horrible. The director refused to have faith in his material, dressing up the interview segments with distracting, kitschy visual effects, dropping spoken word segments into the instrumental bridges of songs during musical performances, and way, way, way too much Rufus Wainright. (Yes, he loves Cohen and these songs... But he really doesn't "get" some of them, especially "Hallelujah.") And, yes, I know that you'll find Leonard Cohen under "Folk" in the record store, but did so many of the songs have to be arranged as if they were being used in the soundtrack of "Brother, Where Art Thou?"

Hey there! I didn't want you to think I had just become friends and then disappeared. I'm usually very busy running after my 13 yr old with his schooling and sport and whatever else he can get into. I did want you to know that I have started the Trio fic and WOW. Yeah, just WOW. I'm on ch 18 pt 2. This is MUCH more than I was expecting. *g*

*goes off giggling*
