Sadly, they are not only for real, but they're a major political force in America. This is what John McCain unleashed by making Sarah Palin his running mate.

The seeds go back to 1980, when Ronald Reagan got elected by telling Americans that simply being Americans was reason enough to be proud of ourselves, without doing anything to earn it. He sold anti-intellectualism, and the belief that it's enough to feel good without being good.

So, now, we have a nation full of intellectually-lazy, ignorant bigots who think the conduct you see above must be okay, because they're Americans, so their impulses are by definition moral.

This is what the voters in the USA have fallen to.
I'll do what I can by voting this Nov. 2nd, but these people scare me simply by being so simple/single minded that they don't realize how uninformed they are.

What scares me is that they don't care. To them, knowing something that contradicts their beliefs, or proving that what they say isn't true, well, that's just cheating!
