I Got A Present II: Electric Boogaloo!

This book arrived on my doorstep today! I'd heard in advance from EWT -- who did, after all, need my address to perform this bit of legerdemaine! -- so it wasn't exactly a surprise, but what a lovely birthday present!

Friends in the UK are no doubt familiar with Posy Simmonds. I'm not, and all I've seen so far is the introductory "Cast of Characters" panel and the first strip, but I'm already thoroughly charmed and thrilled with this! A bit of googling tells me this is a compilation of newspaper comic strips from The Guardian. Boy, you guys get better strips than we do these days! The art style is very human, lovely and fun, and the script feels very natural, very sweet and human.

A whole new thing for me to explore and enjoy, and in the realm of comics, a field I don't talk too much about here, but love deeply.

So, many many thanks, EWT! You're a sweety!

You're welcome - glad it arrived safely and not too slowly.

I don;t think there are any references to fipling in this volume ;-)

Well, I should hope not! The twins aren't old enough in these strips!

Thus far, it seems well worth reading! I recommend giving a look around for it.

Posy Simmonds was doing a regular strip in the Guardian in the early '80s, so it was a bit before your time, luv.

Posy took a break from the newspapers, and did some kids books, but lately she's being doing a serial in the Guardian Weekend Review section, but it's not as good as the old stuff IMHO.

I got it for Leviathan off ebay because his version of Hermione's parents reminded me of the woolly liberal Webers, some of the main characters, and I like her style of subtle humour.
