Thoughts on "Heroes" - Season One - SPOILERS!

Posted on 2007.09.12 at 09:32

OK, who else kept thinking that Ted "Splodey Man" Sprague was going to blow up New York to get back at Geico for those offensive ads?

Molly/Micah: OTP, Baby!

Ando is a great character, but loses points for calling Nikki a bitch. Dude, it's a pay service. And you can't tell me it wouldn't be worth another $39.95!

After the first few episodes I watched, I looked for the fanvid using Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" as "Holding Out for a Hiro." Sure enough:

Now we have to have someone re-write and re-record David Bowie's "(We can be) Heroes" as "We can be Hiro's" and have it sung by the entire female cast of the show, expressing their longing to be Hiro's girl, just for one night.

Check it:

Hayden Panettiere would clearly be up for singing her verse of that!

Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman: Keanu Reeves after a donut binge?

Adrian Pasdar as Nathan Petrelli: Sort of a George Clooneyish thing going on there.

Hayden Panettiere reminds me of Kari Matchett of "Nero Wolfe."

Nice how we get so many questions of who's coming back next year: Lots of injured characters who may or may not make it -- Matt, DL -- and the Missing, Presumed Dead Petrelli Brothers. Peter's easy to bring back. Nathan? That's harder to say, but Peter would be strongly motivated to find a way to protect his brother Could he find a way to do so?

I love how happily interracial the show has been: Nobody blinks at Simone with Isaac or with Peter, and while there are issues surrounding Nikki and DL, Race is not one of them.

Also, by the way, it's easy to miss this under how amazingly hot she is, but Ally Landry turns in stunning performances as not one, not two, but trhree different characters. She's really very good.

So, there are my thoughts, disorganized, but there they are.

Came very close to snorting out the water I was drinking through my nose!

OMG! You are so right! He's put it on since being on Felicity a few years back! But I still really like him as person and as an actor...and I do love his character!

Peter is the man! He'll be back. I've seen in in the previews! Nathan is a different story!!

I'm ready for the new season!!!

I hasten to add that I'm not dissing Mr. Grunberg for his heft. I mean, hell, look at me! I was jsut noting the resemblance. He's such a likeable, decent presence in the show, a great everyman character. His reaction in the final episode when he recognizes Molly was lovely!

Oh, I forgot to mention: With "Company Man?" That means the two best hours of Television ever done on the topic of what it means to be a father were both done on Science Fiction series and featured Christopher Eccleston.

I really, really enjoyed Heroes - we watched on Sky in the U.K. a few months ago. I'm amazed that you didn't hear the SQUEE when we found out who Hiro's dad was across the Atlantic!

I was singing that Bonnie Tyler song to myself a few times back in the spring, you can be sure of that.

I liked the way that they had so many characters, and so much plot, and yet it all more or less fitted together and was consistent.

I've loved Marvel Comics since I was a small child, and Science Fiction, and sly in-jokes are my life.

So to see a series that once again hands George Takei a sword, that gives Stan Lee a cameo as a bus driver, and has a lot of important events take place at a building called "Kirby Plaza" -- and, indeed, to have a walk-on character named Quesada, after current Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada -- to have Christopher Eccleston play a character who, very early on, says, "Fahn-tahstic!" and to put him, and Eric Roberts, and George Takei on the same set at teh same time?

Oh, Tim Kring has won my heart and loyalty, and I will now watch anything the man does.

Episode 12 of Heroes was not broadcast last because of the 20Twenty Cricket tournement.

Did I mention how I think 20Twenty is the Junkfood version of the game for people with ADD?

Is not amused.

Amusingly, that was the first episode I saw. Fortunately, between Bittorrent and legitimate DVD releases, you have ways of seeing it. You need to do so.
