The Ice Storm

Posted on 2008.12.12 at 11:21
We had an Ice Storm overnight, and while we've had a number of times of hearing things falling on the roof of our trailer and rattling and sliding off, we've had no problems. Across the street, however...

And, at the entrance of this little one-street trailer park...

Oh my goodness. I hope that everyone was alright and no one got hurt.

To the best of my knowledge, the damage was restricted to trailers, not people nor pets. (Although a squirrel whose nest was in the heights of that downed tree was apparently thrown to his death on our little street.)

That looks a lot like our town last December. I'm glad no one was hurt, although the cleanup will suck -- ours did.

I'm just really very, very fortunate.

Ouch ... someone isn't going to have a fun weekend! But it's good no one was hurt (except the poor squirrel).

We've had snow flurries (didn't stick) here about 3 times already this year, which is very unusual for us. Normally we don't see any sign of snow until January, and our downed trees are more likely to come from hurricanes than ice, although we will have ice problems occasionally.

I have a friend who had no power from Friday morning through at least last night. She may have it back today -- another friend in that town got his last night -- but I don't know yet.

Ouch. Glad it didn't happen to you, but man that sucks. Glad is just cold here.

I'm glad, too. "Blessed" isn't a word I use much, but, under the circumstances, it's apropos.

Guess I shouldn't mention we're expecting 55 for a high today in the Chicago area then eh? Don't worry the high tomorrow/Monday is only going to be 19.
So glad that there were no injuries or loss of life (aside from that poor squirrel of course).
Reminds me of the ice storm that hit back in the early 90s as we headed down through Mississippi to attend Mardi Gras. They were literally closing down I-55 behind us because of ice formation as we drove south. Have a 'lovely' photo I took as my husband drove of our radio aerial with an easy 1/2"-3/4" of ice. Looks a lot like your power-wire photos
Thankfully you are not without power like so many.
Stay warm & healthy.

It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good, and it must be said that, though the damage is fairly horrific -- one fellow I spoke with yesterday said, "It's like a disaster movie, and I can't believe it's like this for anybody, but it's like this for everybody!" -- the sight of the trees and wires, sparkling in the sunlight, in their glazed coating of ice, is very beautiful.
