The Paradox of George W. Bush

Posted on 2009.01.15 at 21:15
The outgoing President's words tonight:

Good and evil are present in this world, and between the two there can be no compromise. Murdering the innocent to advance an ideology is wrong every time, everywhere. Freeing people from oppression and despair is eternally right.

So where does that leave room for:

The top Bush administration official in charge of deciding whether to bring Guantanamo Bay detainees to trial has concluded that the U.S. military tortured a Saudi national who allegedly planned to participate in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, interrogating him with techniques that included sustained isolation, sleep deprivation, nudity and prolonged exposure to cold, leaving him in a "life-threatening condition."

"We tortured [Mohammed al-]Qahtani," said Susan J. Crawford, in her first interview since being named convening authority of military commissions by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates in February 2007. "His treatment met the legal definition of torture. And that's why I did not refer the case" for prosecution.

Mr. President? You need to know this: Torture is always, eternally evil.

And if there can be no compromise between good and evil, as a man who ordered torture, it's clear which side you are on.

Five more days, and his ass officially does not matter anymore. *sigh* And I am looking forward to it.

Eric Holder is quoted as saying that water boarding is torture he didn’t stutter, dodge, or back peddle. I don’t know how the current (for the next few days) administration could have seen gray in one of the very few places that gray does not exist.

In some ways I feel that Chaney/Bush hurt the collective soul of our country.

Oh please let the nightmare be over.
Damn, still 5 more days
I am SO looking forward to having a President & Commander in Chief who has enough functioning neurons to recognize that binary only works in computers.
I believe the thing that 'W' said that will eternally get my bile up to a boil quickest is 'You're either for us or against us'. Arrrgh
I for one am going to celebrate once I get off work on Tuesday even if I have to do it all by myself because it is so late.
Hope all is well for your lovely bride.
